Pyretown
written by: John Belluso
directed by: Carol Laratonda

February 26th through March 14th

Louise, barely staying afloat on child support and government assistance, is wrestling with her HMO to receive care for her youngest daughter. Harry, a wheelchair-user since childhood, is a brilliant but reclusive college student, who happens to be an expert at navigating the American healthcare system. They meet in a crowded emergency room. The relationship that follows provides them the solace they need to confront their deepest fears. Pyretown begs the question: When faced with our own limitations, does our ability to adapt ultimately depend upon the compassion of others?

The Eclectic Society
By Eric Conger
Walnut Street Theatre - Mainstage
January 19 – March 7, 2010

To be the big man on campus, you have to be able to play the game. In the hallowed halls of The Eclectic Society, young men come together to build character, strengthen bonds and create a better future for their fraternity. What's that laughter we hear behind those doors? There are new recruits that need to be tested, homecoming games to be won and traditions that must be continued. It's the 1960s. Do these men have what it takes to make things right? This new American play celebrates the spirit of young men and the mischief behind them.

A Coupla of White Chicks Sitting Around Talking
The Adrienne - Second Stage
February 11 – March 7, 2010

An Off-Broadway hit, this two-character comedy takes place in the suburban New York kitchen of a model housewife, who is having a tough day: her husband is off on a weekend spree with his secretary and she can't get rid of her pesky new neighbor just arrived from Texas. Two housewives – one a picture-perfect model matron, the other a former cheerleader – learn lessons about life, love and their assumptions about each other when they form an unlikely alliance and improbable friendship. This long running play originally starred Susan Sarandon and Eileen Brennan in the 1980's in Greenwich Village.

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF

mixtape of a city...

Written & Performed by
Sean Christopher Lewis

Directed by
Matt Slaybaugh

A Collaboration with
Philadelphia's
Mural Arts Program

Jan. 22 – Feb. 21, 2010

Originating with a collaboration between
InterAct and the City of Philadelphia's Mural
Arts Program (funded by a grant from the Violette
de Mazia Foundation), CITY OF NUMBERS was created by playwright Sean Christopher Lewis as part of an outreach effort in which he interviewed lifetime inmates at Graterford Prison about their work as mural artists. Since its early beginnings, CITY OF NUMBERS has grown into a dynamic one-man tour de force performance that interweaves the stories of dozens of Philadelphians - from
convicted murderers to victims' relatives to physicians to artists to community leaders to Mayor Michael Nutter. A sobering, moving, and ultimately uplifting portrait of a city gripped by violent crime, CITY OF NUMBERS reveals both the sharp divisions and deep sense of community that define the City of Brotherly Love.

In a world of systematic, high-speed technology, some people expect to live life as efficiently as the machines they depend on... and when a machine breaks down, there is usually someone with the skills to fix it.  But in an age where things that don't work and can't be mended are thrown away, what do we do with something as human and messy as love?

Cine Difi, Development of an Auteur

Are you a film, television, or stage director? Are you an actor? Are you a playwright or screenwriter? If so, then you MUST read "Cine Difi: Development of an Auteur".
As a Director, you need to understand the mindset and disposition of your actors in order to support them in giving the most effective and strongest performance of the work possible. Actors are very delicate instruments who can provide either an astounding depiction of your script or a less than perfect interpretation of the same role. And it's up to the sensitivity and intelligence of the Director to ensure that they find the right direction and commit to that direction throughout your film for continuity purposes and real power. The performance is all that matters in the end and the number of takes won't guarantee a solid performance. Only your strength as a skilled artisan can do that. And this is where Cine Difi can help make you the strongest Director possible.
As an Actor, you'll find that each role is unique in every way, and differs from your previous performances like night and day. And Cine Difi will help you find the psyche of your character to achieve a brutally honest and intensely powerful delivery each and every time. Methods are great, but you need to be able to find the character first. And Cine Difi will help you unleash your inner strengths to find that character accurately. Cine Difi also shows you how to make that character you've isolated as solid as a rock. Don't take chances with your performance. Let Cine Difi help you construct and define a memorable and great character.
As a Writer, the one thing that must always take place in the script is for the readers to instantly be able to "see" the characters and events unfolding right before their eyes. Certainly not an easy task when you're staring at black ink on white paper. You need to bring those aspects to life so vividly that all who read your script become engrossed in the world you've created. Not for a moment can you allow anything to stop that from happening. And Cine Difi gives you the insight to understanding how to effectively flesh out those aspects of the characters to a point where putting down the script is no longer an option for the reader. Cine Difi will help you develop characters with heart, depth, and audience connectivity, so you can finish with a stable of characters so compelling that the script will become an instant "must option".

Calling all 24-Hour Party People! Brat's signature performance event (Philly Metro's "Best Production of 2007") returns for a whole new round of round-the-clock, wall-to-wall comedy.

Six actors. Twenty-four performances. No breaks. No kidding! You may have heard of The Bald Soprano, Eugene Ionesco's one-hour masterpiece of metaphysical nonsense that has been in permanent showing in Paris since 1957. Written as a continuous loop, the play contains directions in the final scene to start the performance over from the very beginning, with actors shifting roles for the next round.

Brat Productions takes this idea to its absurdly logical (illogical?) conclusion: at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, our fresh-faced actors enter this world...and won't take a powder until the clock strikes 8:00 p.m. the next night! YOU, however, can come and go, night and day—or stay for every waking minute.
